A while ago I won a contest at 99designs for my online engineering education site design and was stoked.

Still, I never got to share all the failures I had in these online design contests. So, here we go, 99designs: The Fail Story.

In total, I submitted 8 designs to 8 different contests, some were just quick-edits of old designs and some were designs I made to WIN. That’s right, I had the win or bust mindset during the design process. I’d like to share two of the designs in the latter category.

Recently, I’ve been entering in some web design contests at 99designs.com. 99designs hosts a lot of design contests by allowing anyone to sign up and setup a “design contest” for their business or company. There’s anything from logo design to t-shirt design to twitter background contests. I don’t really have the time to commit to guaranteed client work at the moment (which takes a couple weeks to complete); so, I pretty much just browse around the site looking for any interesting contests.

Well, I submitted an entry for the design of EngineeringDegrees.com and was chosen as the winner! I guess studying electrical engineering at college was finally put to some use? It may not be my flashiest design, but it fit their needs and they’re happy with it; so, it’s all good.
